I say, “I don’t know, it might be a
planet because it’s not twinkling.”
He tells me that he has an “app”
for his iPad that tells him the names of the stars and planets and runs into the
house to get it. Jack is almost 7
and is so “tech-savvy” these days!
Jack looks for the star or planet on his iPad and we discover that Venus
and Jupiter are both visible in the night sky, which was pretty cool!
After a few minutes, Jack’s dad
shows him a picture on his phone of a planet in another solar system that looks
very similar to earth. They have
used very powerful telescopes to obtain these images perhaps from a satellite. http://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/space/photos/10-nasa-images-of-planets-like-earth/a-new-earth
After we look at the images, Jack
says to me,
“God knows about all of that stuff
in space, right, Grandma?”
I say, “Yes, God knows about
everything.”
Then Jack asked “What is God like?”
(A tough question…but here goes my inadequate response…)
Me:
“God is kind of like the wind…you
can’t see him, but you can feel that he’s there.”
Jack:
“But, Grandma, if God is the wind,
then he’s just oxygen and air!”
Me:
“Yes, I know…but I said he was
“like” the wind not that he was the wind. I was comparing him to the wind, but he’s really more of a
spirit.”
Jack:
“What’s a spirit? Is it like a
ghost?”
Me:
“ Kind of…but, not exactly…I think
it is sort of like love. You can’t
put your hand around it…but you can feel it’s there. Just like how I feel when I’m with you…I love you. And I
love grandpa and your mommy and daddy.
You can’t see it, but it’s there.”
Jack:
“So God is everywhere, right,
Grandma?
And God is love, right Grandma?”
And God is love, right Grandma?”
Me:
“Right. You’ve got it! God knows a
lot of things that I don’t know.”
Jack:
“How come?”
Me:
“Because God knows everything! I
don’t!”
“It’s time for you to go get ready
for bed now! I love you!”
Jack:
“Love you too!”

Gail, I'm so happy to find your blog. What a beautiful picture you painted for Jack of God. Your responses to him more than adequate! Bless you, and I can't wait to read more!
